In response to continued arguments from druggists and chemists that easy availability of medicine through e-pharmacies would lead to misuse, Kerala government has issued an order which contains guidelines to support and regulate online pharmacy.
According to order by state health ministry, the government would like to control e-pharmacies mainly to control over the counter sales of medicines, which can lead to antibiotic resistance. According to sources from health ministry, e-pharmacy drug sales would be linked with e-health program of the government.
The order is framed in a triangular way involving a designated doctor, designated pharmacy and the individual. The trio would reach an agreement of collaboration. The authentication could be done by registered mobile number or mail id of the doctor and e-pharmacy.
